Dennis Joseph O'Neil is an American/South Korean actor. He was born in 1981 to a Korean mother and a former American GI father. He is known in South Korea as Dennis Oh.
Dennis started modeling at the age of 16 as he applied for a model contest he had heard from the radio by chance while working out in his basement. He had majored in illustration at first at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD)[1], but later changed it to photography thinking he needed to learn it properly while modeling through Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. He also considers to become a professional photographer when he retires from the entertainment industry.
He began his career in South Korean entertainment industry by modeling in a couple of TV commercials, and then was cast to [Sweet Spy] by the producer Ko Dongsun in 2005. In a later interview, Mr. Ko said he cast Dennis because of the recommendation of his wife who saw the cellphone commercial of Dennis on TV. In fact, this commercial was a quite of an issue due to its creative concept of adopting Vitruvian Man of Leonardo da Vinci. Owing to this commercial, Dennis got the nicknames of "Living David" or "Walking Statue".
In the drama Sweet Spy (2005), he appears as a mysterious spy 'Han Yoo-il' who falls in love with an ordinary female police officer. As he assimilated the homme-fatal character so superbly, he created an unprecedented sensation in the cyber space that a portal website was once stuck by too much traffic. As the fruit of his labor in [Sweet Spy], Dennis jumped to stardom in Korea.
The music video of Barammanbaramman (2006) by Kim Jong Kook & SG Wannabe in which he performed with Han Ga-in, made a big hit as well. Dennis acted a gigolo who realized what a real love is by a pure girl, who is actually a pickpocket.
He starred in the SBS drama Witch Yoo Hee in the spring, 2007, as a role of a famous French chef Johnny Kruger from New York, and partnered again with Han Ga-in. Johnny Kruger is charismatic and professional at work, but a gentle character trying his best to help his love Ma Yoohee. What made this drama so special for him and his fans was that he performed in Korean, which required tremendous courage for an English-mother-tongue.
In 2008, He performs in another Korean drama East of Eden, a special programme commemorating 47th anniversary of MBC. In this drama, he plays Mike Packer, a successor of a Hong Kong and Macao tycoon. Mike is a doubting Thomas in fear of losing what he has got, and basically weak inside trying to be cool. He is in love with Gook Young Ran, or Grace as he calls her (played by Lee Yun Hee.
Dennis O'Neil is one of two most popular half-Korean type actors in South Korea having an advantage of his unique attraction - balanced image of western and eastern looking. Now he prepares to expand his career in various fields throughout Asia and the United States.
